A downloadable game

This town’s an enigma, wrapped in a portent, baked into a damn fine cherry pie. You’ll get to the bottom of it, if it doesn’t get to the bottom of you first.

Wayfarer’s End is a microgame of Unsettling mysteries in Homespun towns (or vice versa).

To play, you’ll need:

  • 3-5 friends or strangers game to explore the town with you.
  • Some index cards and writing implements.
  • A vintage cookbook. The more used, the better. Borrow it from grandparents, perhaps. Or buy it secondhand.

Together, you'll tell the story of a town and its mysterious underbelly, using the cookbook to resolve scenes in Unsettling or Homespun fashion.

You can find a short version of Wayfarer's End as a submission to the 200 Word RPG Challenge.

You can find the full version of Wayfarer's End (along with other great game materials) in Codex: Void, a publication by the Gauntlet Community. Codex: Void is currently available on DriveThruRPG for $9. This version features illustration by Cecilia Ferri.

A very good variation around Swords Without Master, with the clever use of a recipe book. I a few pages, it conveys a special mood. I want to play it some day.
